Let's call this my Adventures in Drugstore Beauty Wonderland, shall we?

It all started when I heard many wondrous tales, far and wide, of the dazzling, amazing, spectacular, incredible [insert your own superlative here] Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter...ever heard of it?

It is indeed a truly hard-to-find treasure which everyone wants to get her hands on!

Really though? Really?

You may even be foiled by misleading guides and obscure location, like this:


No wonder there are so many! Those are not Revlon ColorBurst Lipsticks and no, they're not $9.49! (I'm also the one who organized it to look pretty like that, instead of having them scattered and hidden.)

But do not despair, for good things come to those who wait and those who endure!

Hello, heaven...that doesn't have the one color I'm looking for! Wait, where am I?!

I literally went to 8 drugstores within 24 hours, searching for the exact colors at the right price (I have this thing where I don't want to pay full price for drugstore makeup, since I know there are always BOGO Free or 40-50% off sales)...and I am still searching for ONE (okay, maybe two) more!

While I was out hunting lip butters, some other shimmery treasures caught my fancy.

What say you? Have you spotted and gotten your hands on any of these oh-so-lovely things? I was pretty determined and got a couple of each to try (well, I'd already gotten two Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters from Target, but I got one more). It's funny because I told myself, after all that hunting, with precious time and effort spent...I still spent a lot of money. Was it really worth it? BUT...I find myself wanting to get more! It's an illness that's been inflicted upon me. ;) So far...blogging seems to be the only remedy, but it can only treat the symptoms, haha. Oh...what am I saying? Will post a follow-up on these goodies soon! =)

My Thoughts

Not my favorite of the floral bunch but still a very good mask. It makes my face feel smooth and hydrated. I think there is some firming effect but not very dramatic, and I didn't really notice any or much whitening. Still, it does a great job at leaving skin feeling smooth and supple and didn't leave too much of a sticky residue.

My Thoughts

I'm really liking My Beauty Diary masks, including these Blooming of Beauty series. This Pink Rockrose mask makes my skin feels soft and supple. To be honest, I don't see a very obvious whitening effect, but my skin does look more revitalized and radiant after using this mask. The fragrance is so-so but because of its effects, I like this mask more than the Orange Blossom mask.

My Thoughts

The lovely scent reminds me faintly of tea! I can wear this mask for close to an hour before it starts to feel dry. The remaining serum feels a bit sticky on my face but it's fine if I add moisturizer or else subsides if I let it be. My skin looks somewhat brighter, not in a very obvious way but in a subtle glow. It is soothing but definitely not the most brightening nor moisturizing. All in all, not the best but still a nice mask.

Hello, everybody. =) This is just a quick post that I wanted to do as I reflect and honor the life and work of a great American. When we are kids, we learn to celebrate every holiday and its meaning, but as we get older, we (or at least I) tend to think more along the lines of "Yes! Holiday! Long weekend! What should I do on my day off?" and then we get bombarded with "Happy [insert name here] Holiday! Shop our [insert name here] Holiday Sale!" messages, haha.

I'm not saying that to point fingers because obviously I am often guilty of that myself. But...I'd like to change that. MLKJ is one of the holidays that has profound meaning for Americans and is pretty much undisputable in my book (you can't say its origin was intended for something else, like with Christmas and Valentine's Day, for example).

As part of the minority, which in the U.S. means anyone who is not a wealthy white male, we are able to enjoy lives of opportunity and equality because of those like Martin Luther King, Jr. who fought against oppression and adversity in the Civil Rights Movement. At the least, Mr. King, Jr. makes me want to be a better person, a hardworking and enduring person, an appreciative person who has compassion for others.

One of my personal favorite quotes is "Be the change you wish to see in the world" from Ghandi, and I think Martin Luther King, Jr. is a perfect example of someone who truly lived that way.

My Thoughts

I was instantly attracted to this when I spotted it, it's so gorgeous in the bottle. On my nails though, it took me 3 coats to achieve the effect I wanted. One coat is simply clear with a few scattered and mostly small glitters. I think for the price, there should be much more glitter particles, especially large glitter, so while I liked it, I was a bit disappointed and wouldn't recommend or purchase it again.

I'd paired it up with this Essie "Below the Belt", which is a beautiful, creamy white shade BUT was horribly streaky. It made me sad. I would be tempted to blame it on a bad bottle/batch but have seen a lot of reviews saying the same. What a shame because I liked the shade. You win some, you lose some.

Have you tried this or any other Sephora By OPI glitter top coats? Any suggestions on what other nail polishes you would pair it with?

this is the amount that I use (one full pump); a small amount is all I need (the heart circles are about nickle-quarter size)

My Thoughts

This is a good moisturizer with hydrating properties. It's hydrating enough for me to use on my dry/combination skin in the winter but isn't so rich or thick feeling that I believe anyone looking for just a little more hydration can use it. However, if you have very dry skin and live in cold and dry climate, you may need a richer moisturizer. My skin is dry but I live in So Cal and so am able to use it in the winter here.

It's lightly scented which you may or may not like. The scent can seem either fresh and juicy or more of a subtle, earthy scent.

It is on the pricey side but I first bought mine with 20% sale at Sephora, then with 40% off on Sasa (which has its regular price at $46). Sasa actually has it on sale at 70% off so it's only $14!! The sale ends on the 15th (Hong Kong time). (Even if you pay $6 shipping to US, it's still only $20.)

2011 Beauty Favorites

Hiyee~!! This is my Best of 2011 List. This year I was a bit boring; I used a lot of favorites from the year before and didn't try a lot of products until near the end of the year, so I think it's too soon to say they were my favorites. Many of these products I have not had a chance to review so I will do so as soon as possible. For now, I'll just say a quick quip about each. :3

My Beauty Diary Mask Earl Grey Tea & Macaron Sheet Mask
My Beauty Diary is a winner in my book because of products like this. Super cute packaging, cheap, but works well and immediately.

Yes to Carrots C Me Smile Lip Butter
This was a pleasant surprise as I did not expect much but it's actually more hydrating and softening than Burt's Bees lip balm. My favorite is Melon.

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream
I switched from the lotion formula to cream and it's been working much better for me. I really like that it provides high SPF and doesn't have the typical, strong sunblock smell.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes ~ Hydrating
I remember the original towelettes caused a stinging sensation on my skin but these do not. Not only do these do a superb job of removing makeup but it's a plus that I don't have to moisturize after using them.

The Body Shop Mango Body Butter
I use this after every shower and it keeps my skin hydrated and feeling soft. It smells pleasant and is a great quality product for a very affordable price.

Schwarzkopf got2b guardian angel blow-out lotion
This drugstore item is cheap (about $6-$7 retail, often on sale for $5 or less) but works wonderfully to protect my hair from heat and also leave it feeling silky soft. A Must Have in the winter cold months when one cannot walk around with or go to bed with wet hair.

Inglot Eye Shadows
These eye shadows are pigmented and of high quality but for a very affordable price (I bought these on sale for $4 but they're $5 regular price). I love being able to choose the exact shadows I want for a palette.

Still my favorites

Essential Ultra Honey & Shea Butter Rich Premier Hair Mask
I still use this, even though I do consider it a bit pricey. However, the hair treatment and hair mask make my hair feel sooooo hydrated and soft, that I just can't help but stay loyal.

Clarisonic Mia
This was a splurge but Iyah and Mona had convinced me it was worth it, and it definitely has proven so. The difference may be subtle but the effects are there in the long run.

H2O Plus Urban Defense Green Tea Cleansing Milk
I used this all year long (this was my second bottle)! It's so gentle, soothing, slightly brightening and works well with my Clarisonic Mia.

K-Palette liquid eyeliner
This has been a staple for me and though I've tried other liquid eyeliners, none has yet to take its place. I'm open to trying others but so far, I just keep coming back.

Last year, I focused more on skincare and that's always going to be most important to me. This year, I'd like to be open to trying more brands, especially if I could find and fall in love with products that are more budget-friendly and easy to find. I'd also like to research and learn more about ingredients so that I can make better educated choices when it comes to choosing products.

Happy belated New Year, everyone!!

It still feels so unreal that it's 2012! I wonder how long will it take before I get used to saying it and writing it. To be honest, I did not get to spend a lot of time at the end of 2011 to reflect and re-evaluate, so I'm still mulling things over slowly. I just wanted to pop in and say hi, and also state that blogging is on my list for 2012.

I know I'm a strange creature, I used to blog and spend a lot of time reading & commenting on blogs, then slowly pulled back so that I could spend more time doing other things. Perhaps I just like coming full circle.

Without further ado, here are my humble blogging goals for 2012 (almost thought and typed "2011").

2012 Blogging Resolutions

♥ Blog more. I mean more frequently. God knows I tend to overwrite, ramble and babble. This time, shall I aim for a post a week? Yes, I think so.

♥ Write more reviews. I have acquired, tried, and used many, many products since I started blogging, and yet I have so few reviews to show for it! No more. I used to think I had to review or post about a product while it was still "hot," but I've realized that often times, a product may pique someone's interest long after it was "hot," and therefore even an old review can still be just as useful or relevant.

♥ Encourage more. Spend more time on other blogs and Facebook pages, etc. and drop a comment or "like" or other sign of encouragement. Often times people don't realize how much time and effort it takes to blog and put one's self out there, and how much a simple "like" or short comment is appreciated. I definitely appreciate receiving such small but cherished signs of love and support!

♥ Learn more. I don't see myself as very skillful when it comes to makeup application, but I do enjoy learning more about products, companies, ingredients, and web-related technology. This may not be something that you can see immediately on my blog, but it's definitely something I can tell about myself.

♥ Engage. Believe it or not, I'm not just writing or blogging for myself (though at times, it may seem or feel like it). I want to know what your thoughts are, your opinions, your suggestions, everything. When I first started blogging about beauty matters (3 years ago! OMG!), what really floored me was the sense of community, and how I could talk about my interests with so many others who enjoyed the same. I may not be the type to eagerly run out and try every "amazing, MUST HAVE" product, but I do like hearing/reading about them and what people's experiences are. Simply put, I love to learn from YOU.

Like it was meant to be...

Today, Beautylish posted an article "So You Want a Career in Beauty? Part 1." I found it an interesting read, as well as sweet and simple. It contains words of wisdom from a sprinkling of successful beauty role models including an esthetician, makeup artist, beauty publicist, beauty blogger, and eco beauty expert. Sephora VIB Goodies

Hiyee...I think you know by now that I don't blog in "real time," my blogs are usually about things that are from the sometimes-recent/sometimes-not-so-recent past. =X I hope you'll forgive me for that. I'm actually also that way with my Facebook too. I dunno, sometimes, or most of the time, I get so caught up in the moment, or I'm quickly moving onto the next thing, that I don't post right away. It's just the way I am.

So anyway...about two weeks after the Sephora Friends & Family sale, there was the Sephora VIB 20% off sale, ahhhh! I really liked the mailer they sent out though, and this time, the code was good for unlimited use within the time frame.

I was actually in SF while the sale was happening and I was luckily enough to walk to the Sephora in downtown SF/Union Square for the VIB event. Okay...to be VIB, you have to spend quite a bit at Sephora in one calendar year, which I never thought I would be somehow I did. =X But surprisingly (or maybe I shouldn't be surprised), apparently a lot of people spend a lot at Sephora as the VIB event was pretty poppin', and the SF Union Square Sephora is fairly big too.

I got the free black tote bag...but does anyone know why there were also white bags with gold lettering/stitching? I saw a girl with one but didn't ask.

I saw this while I was standing in line, lol. It's a limited edition set and it's a good deal because just the full-sized body butter alone costs $28, so for $10 more (or with the 20% off sale, $2.40 more), you get everything else (hand cream, lip conditioner, crushed Cabernet scrub). I've said this many times but I'm a moisture maniac so I'm def looking forward to giving this a try, especially in the drier months of winter.

KORRES Guava Indulgences Body/Lip Collection

This I was lucky because I was able to exchange a KORRES Guava Body Butter I'd already had but had barely used. I'd bought it months ago for full price, which is $28, and here this set only costs $4 more. I never knew before that Sephora allows you to return or exchange products as long as you have 80%+ remaining, even if you've had it for a long time and/or no longer have the receipt. With the 20% off, this set cost $25.6 so it was actually less than what I'd spent on the one item. Score!

Korres Guava body butter, showergel, hand cream, and lip butter

LAURA MERCIER 500-Point Reward
Okay, I must say kudos to Sephora for customer service. When I first saw this LM 500-Point Reward, I wanted to kick myself (or maybe just smack my forehead) for using my 500 points a few months ago on a BUXOM set that I hadn't even used yet. Luckily for me, Sephora let me exchange it! The only thing though was that I hadn't brought the BUXOM set with me to SF, so when I got back I immediately went from the airport to Sephora, lol. The Body Shop Gives Joy

Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone!! Did you spend the holiday and time off with your family and loved ones? Eat lots until you could do nothing but laze around, and then hate yourself for it when you stepped on the scale? Shop the Black Friday sales and scour the Cyber Monday ads until you're sure you need another job just to pay for all of your spending? Don't worry, I won't judge you! ^_^

Surprisingly, I haven't done that much shopping this weekend...yet (it's still not quite over), but I will report back to you if I do!

One store or company that I do highly recommend checking out is The Body Shop. Why? Because not only do I really loveeeeee their mango body butter (if you have dry skin or winters get really cold in your area, you need to try this!), but they frequently offer great deals. I feel like as a company, they really do value customers and want you to try their products! Hence all the great deals. =)

For instance, I know they have had at least two Groupon deals within the past year. I missed the first one but was able to snag the last one, which was $20 for $40 worth of products, yippie! The only condition was that I had to use it in store, so I decided to use it about two weeks ago when The Body Shop had this promotion:

Side note: I know it seems cruel for me to post about a sale that's been long over...but guess what? They had an even better Black Friday sale, $30 for any 3 products! I believe this will also be the deal for Cyber Monday, plus free shipping. They also had a $25 Mistletote Bag with $120 worth of products for Black Friday, not sure if that's still being offered but you would have to check stores since it sold out online (the store I visited last night still had it). Here's what I put in my bag:

I absolutely love the Mango Body Butter and cannot sing its praises enough (although, I wish The Body Shop would make another fruity scented body butter for dry/very dry skin, even if it's just strawberry mango or pineapple mango). It's sooo moisturizing and absorbs quickly, plus it smells yummy.

The Spa Wisdom™ Japan Yuzu & Rice Body Milk is not an absolute MUST HAVE for me, but more of a treat and something that I'd only get if it's on sale. Its retail price is $22, which to me, is too expensive for something as light as this. It's a lotion that's so light-weight that it comes out in a spray. What drew me to it was its scent, which is sort of perfume-y and flowery yet powdery and "ricey" at the same time. It's a bit strong at first but subdues to a clean and fresh fragrance. I do wish The Body Shop would make this in something more moisturizing, like a body butter.

Because of the promotions at the time, I also signed up for the Love Your Body membership. With the 30% discount versus the membership's additional 20% discount (which is not the same as 50% total discount, but slightly less) plus the $10 membership fee, the total difference for my purchase was about $2. Plus I'd saved $20 through Groupon, score! Altogether I spent about $27, wheeeeee! (The total for the regular priced body items would have been $58, before tax.)

The bag also came with coupons for a free gift (no purchase necessary, in stores only) each of the following six consecutive weeks. So far I've received the first two and they have been nice! Generous, full-sized products, nicer than what I would have expected. But, I'll wait to show you when I've received all six. =)

The price has since dropped from $38 to $30 for this set.

My first choice was actually Hussy but it went out of stock as I (and many other customers) were trying to check out online, argh! But luckily, this blusher in Lover really is lovely! It's pigmented without being too bright nor frosty, and the texture is smooth and soft. I'm glad I snagged this and would definitely recommend it.

Ahh looks can be deceiving sometimes, and I feel that really is the case with Angelika. It always looked like a very cool-toned, blue pink with lots of micro glitters in person to me and when I swatched it on my hand/fingers, but I noticed many tanned or medium-complected blogger friends speak highly of it. So I gave in, thinking I could always exchange it if I don't like it, but surprisingly, it's a very pretty pink. On my medium-tanned cheeks (I'm about NC35-40, summer tan refuses to go away), it blends nicely and gives a pretty pink flush that looks warmer than what I expected.

These were necessities for me as I'd needed to replace my Clarisonic Mia head and was almost out of face sunblock (managed to squeeze a last use out of the one I had, wheeee!). I must admit I'm a little jealous of all those who didn't already own a Mia because now you can get them in value/gift sets with extra goodies and have much more color choices than I did! :) I do love my Mia though and the Shiseido is a really nice sunblock. I prefer the cream formula for my combination-to-dry skin. I like that it doesn't have the typical sunblock scent but it's not without its flaws; sometimes it can give me a bit of a white cast but I've learned to survive and keep it from looking ghostlike.

I'd also gotten two other items, but decided to return them.

I really wanted to like this, especially when I saw the holiday promotional ads for it. It looked more "gold-infused" but in person and on, it's much more reddish or "rose." It's not totally horrible and can be workable if I blend it well on my cheeks, but, puh-lease, I don't want to spend so much for something "workable." I was looking for love or a good fling or affair. ;) This just wasn't it for me.

BOBBI BROWN Ultimate Party Palette (Limited Edition), $65

This was one of those things I decided to purchase since I knew I could return it, haha. I had a feeling it'd wouldn't be as magical as I was hoping for, especially since I didn't get a chance to see it in person first. The size is really small and in some pictures online, I thought there was a shadow more khaki-green in color, but the colors are all very neutral. The size of the eye shadows is really small, and truthfully, I'd rather have more eye shadow than lip gloss in the palette. I know it's Bobbi Brown but I just didn't feel the palette was worthy of its price tag, so, back it went.

This was probably the biggest Sephora haul I've ever made, due to the one-time-only use of the code and also because luckily, I had a nice gift card. *Whew.

Was there something you got from the Sephora sale that you fell in love with and can't help but gush about? Let's not forget that the VIB 20% off sale happened about two weeks after the Friends & Family sale! =X But...that will have to wait for another post from me, hehe.

Yes, I'm feeling mixed emotions...I know I'm not the only one who's disappointed this year with Sephora's Friends & Family Sale, right?

What's up with all the fine print and limitations?

I may have mentioned on my blog (fore sure I did on my FB page) that I won As Pink As My Juicy's circle lens giveaway sponsored by EyeCandyLens.com. Well, here is what I won, my very first pair of circle lenses!!

The prize also included Rohto Lycee Eye Drops and a set of falsies. I haven't tried the falsies yet but I definitely will. I also love the Rohto Lycee drops. It comes in such a cute design and my friend describes it as the eye drops "that make my eyes feel like they're having sex," lol.

I was able to choose which pair I wanted and the timing just happened to be perfect because I'd ask a friend which brand she used since they look so nice but natural on her. The hard part was picking out a color, I couldn't decide between grey, brown, or green! I ended up choosing grey.

When I first put them on I was like WHOA. haha The difference is really noticeable, it looked like I'd just turned into a vampire! (Err...or lizard, I dunno.) But I got used to them by the second time I wore them, and it was almost disappointing taking them out and having boring, regular eyes again. =( (Like Cinderella having her enchantment come to an end.)

I was a bit nervous at first. I guess that's just how I am. First, I spent so much time choosing a color that I forgot to include my prescription, ack! Then, I was nervous if I'd be able to see with these lenses, haha. I have astigmatism which really sucks but I'd hoped since Iyah was able to wear circle lenses, I'd be okay too. :3 And lastly, I was just nervous how I'd look with them, hehehe.

Although the grey can be really unnatural looking up close or in bright lighting, I do think it has a chameleon effect and tends to match with whatever color you're wearing. Even though I know the diameter is bigger than my eyes, I think my eyes may be too small or almond shape because I don't really see that huge, doll-like effect like I see on other girls, but I still find the circle lenses really pretty and fun to wear. Because of my stupid astigmatism (yes, it's stupid), I can't see quite as well with these circle lenses so I don't think I can wear them very often, just once in a while (and hopefully, someone else would be driving, haha).

I just checked EyeCandyLens.com and they happen to have the series on sale right now, so I'm probably going to order another pair! =)

I'm temped to wear these to Beautylish's The Beauty Social event this upcoming weekend. What do you think? Although people might think I'm staring at them...

Weekend Getaway in San Francisco - Day 3

Last installment of my now-long-ago weekend in SF, thanks for indulging me. =) Sunday also went by really fast but it was also nice and I really enjoyed it. Overall SF was a welcome breath of fresh air for me and I can't wait to go back again.

For lunch my friend took me to Turtle Tower Restaurant, a northern style pho place. Yum. It's quite different than the southern/Americanized pho that I usually eat, but still quite tasty.

Afterwards, I dragged him to Golden Gate Park, to see the Picasso exhibit at the de Young Museum. To be honest, I'm not really a Picasso fan but I love museums and I can appreciate that these pieces came all the way from Paris. (No photography was allowed inside the exhibit.)

Unfortunately I was pressed for time so we couldn't do the audio tour, which I think would have been much better. After leaving the de Young Museum, we visited the Japanese Tea Garden. I really liked it, it's big and beautiful and it was also nice since it was a sunny day. Although...is it a little sad to say that some of it reminded me of The Sims 2? haha Sometimes my life reminds me of that game, even though it's supposed to be the other way around.

Ahhhhh I really wanted to stay longer at Golden Gate Park but I knew I was pushing it. After we left though, I found out my flight had been delayed so I made a quick stop at the YesStyle store at Stonestown Galleria. They didn't have what I was looking for but I did end up with one purchase.

I got to spend my Saturday with May and Catherine. They are so sweet and down-to-earth girls and the day went by so fast! The weather was surprisingly very nice and sunny, making the day even better. Weekend Getaway in San Francisco - Day 1

Heylo, heylo!!

Was I really in SF (San Francisco) two weeks ago? Feels almost like it couldn't have been that long ago already and yet also feels like another lifetime ago too. =X

I only stayed for a weekend, from Friday early afternoon until Sunday evening, which I thought would be a nice, long weekend but once I was there, I realized it wasn't long enough. I'll definitely be back again soon.

I took a lot of pictures so I'll have to break this post into three, one for each day.

Day 1. Friday

Even though I'd gotten up at 5:30am, my day in SF didn't really start until after 1pm. First stop was lunch at Ghirardelli Square. I'd wanted to have lunch at Fisherman's Wharf, but there wasn't enough time, so we just grabbed something simple and light to eat so we could enjoy some dessert as well.

We chose Lori's Dinner which has that quaint, old school feel with '50s diner interior and a a beautiful view of the bay, but to be honest, I felt for the price we paid (I believe my plate was about $12.50 with tax and before tip), the food was average and I would just skip it next time and just go for dessert at Ghirardelli Square.

Raspberry Dazzle, Java, and Blackberry

I was pretty full so I only got the Raspberry Dazzle - chocolate cupcake filled with a raspberry cream filling and sweet raspberry buttercream, but next time, I'll definitely get more.

They were actually setting up for a proposal. Apparently a guy had called and ordered cupcakes to be displayed with the message, "Valerie, will you marry me?" in the display counter. Awww...my first comment was "Wow, guys actually do stuff like that in real life?" haha I thought we would witness the moment but then there was a phone call and apparently the couple went to the wrong Kara's Cupcakes location a few blocks away.

After Ghirardelli hotel, my pretty pink cupcakes and I went to check in at the Marriott Courtyard in Downtown San Francisco. Then I met up with May, Dianne, and her friends at happy hour nearby at the Harlot bar and lounge.

We ended up having so much fun that we completely missed our dinner reservation at House of Prime Rib. Instead, we decided to walk around a bit and had dinner at Osha Thai restaurant. For some reason, I ended up not being that hungry for dinner so I had my favorite Thai soup and nibbled on an appetizer. I'm pretty sure I gave the SF girls the impression that I ate like a bird when in truth, anyone who knows me well knows I can eat a lot. =X

It also showed me how fast time was going by (just in that day alone, I was already unable to do a few things I'd planned or wanted to do) and I knew that I had to make the most of the weekend, even though it would probably go by way too fast.

Summer MAC-ing

Hiyee everyone! I'm back home in the OC, had an awesome time in SF and will post about it soon, but first, I just wanted to post a mini MAC haul since they go with these summer pics (technically, summer ends September 23 because of the fall equinox, so I'm not too, too behind).

After my birthday, I wanted a new lippie and had been eying this MSF (Mineralize Skin Finish) so I gave in to this pretty little thing from the Semi Precious Collection.

I really like the way MSFs look, they just make me happy to look at them (and yes, also to use them). This one is actually not the best (I still think Stereo Rose is prettier), but I wanted a pink one (should have gotten the re-release of Petticoat since the second time around was a warmer tone than the first). It is sheer with the center being very reflective in pictures with flash, but the color is somewhat buildable. I like to wear it on top of NARS The Multiple in Copacabana and St. Barts. The cremesheen looked really bright in stores due to lightening but it's actually become my current favorite because it's a very wearable, medium pink. I really like cremesheens and wish MAC would make more color options in them.

The nail polish color I was wearing at the time was OPI's Come to Poppy from the Nice Stems collection, which is a shimmering coral pink. I also used OPI's Teenage Dream and OPI's White Shatter.

Another similar spring/summer shade I had before that was OPI's Guy Meets Gal-veston from the Texas collection. I really liked the formula and the "sorbet-like"finish was very glossy and jellylike.

Though I've been shopping a bit lately for fall, clearly I still haven't transitioned (and neither has Cali with our end-of-summer heat waves), but I'm sure I'll get there. =)

Late Summer Lusts at Victoria's Secret

Ahhhhh!! This always happens to me, hehe, I want something too late. =( A friend showed me her Victoria's Secret body mist the other weekend, and although I didn't love it I did like it but turns out it's all sold out in stores around me. Sadface.

Victoria's Secret Limited Edition Bombshell Summer Scent

It contains notes of juicy grapefruit, black currant, and lily of the valley. While it's not absolute LOVE at first sniff for me, I do like it a lot as it's fruity and floral, light and just a bit of subtle sexiness, hehe. I found the the parfum bottle in store but it's $50 for a 1.7 oz size. I'll never finish the bottle, haha, so it's not worth it to me to spend that much. Hmm...now I'm debating whether I should snag the body mist from eBay for $30 (retail price is $25 but apparently I'd missed the $15 sale). What do you think?

I've also been wanting more swimsuits so I browsed through the VS swimwear section, only to find that the ones I really like are sold out in my size. Damn you, VS, damn you.

I really like this one because depending on the lighting, it can look more pink or coral. I think it's a perfect shade for spring and summer, and like the cute, trendy look of it. This creamy beige bage is just my style. Here's a pic of me carrying it...yes, I saw a mirror with nice lighting while I was shopping at the mall, lol.

Overall I know that YesStyle's prices are more than what I really think the bags are worth, based on quality (though they do look cute and trendy). I think the bags are comparable to what you would find at H&M or Forever 21, for cheaper. But, then again, you get more of a selection on YesStyle and their shipping costs are very reasonable (other sites may have lower product prices but you pay a lot for shipping so it almost evens out), and I ordered enough to get free shipping. Plus YesStyle does accept returns/gives refunds on certain items (be sure to read before you buy) and in the U.S., you just pay to ship the return items to their local warehouse, which for me is in a city roughly 30 miles away, so not too bad.

I also bought a few tops and dresses, but not sure if anyone's interested in seeing them. I am probably going to purchase from YesStyle again, to satisfy my craving for trendy Asian fashion goods until I can finally take a trip to Asia and shop like crazy~!! =)

A Little Inglot Indulgence

I went to Inglot this past Sunday and got a little buy happy, hehe. The first and last time I'd been there was wayyyy back in February, and for some reason, I just don't go very often even though it's not that far from me. Originally I was just planning to get a 5-pan eye shadow palette and gel eyeliner...and maybe a lipstick...and maybe a blush...but here's what I walked out with.

I've been going out a lot lately and it made me *realize* that most of my makeup is so last year/last summer, and I've also been going to pool parties and beach parties which made me want more waterproof and cream-based makeup. So the first thing I picked up was this baby after reading Diana's (Mayaari's) awesome review (okay, it didn't take much to sell me but you should still check out her thorough review and photos!).

Matte Collection AMC Eyeliner Gel # 77 ($12)

I also wanted to get a peachy/orange-toned lippie, especially since most of my lipsticks and lip glosses are pink or nude (I know, I know...can't help it, that's what I love most).

Slim Gel Lipstick #42 ($12)

Depending how many layers you like, it can be either on the punchy, bold side...

Or blotted to a softer ripe peach color.

I also picked up this beautiful blush.

Face Blush #29 ($12)

Much like the Slim Gel Lipstick, it's a beautiful peachy/orange shade that can be layered to be bright or blended to a soft tone.

Okay story of my airheadedness, haha. I honestly thought this blush was a cream blush, because the tester was so soft and smooth, it felt a lot like my NARS Multiple in palette form. So...I seriously thought the MUA gave me the wrong blush in powder instead (though I also thought it was pretty and was considering keeping it anyway) and I went back the next night...yeahhh, haha, okay that's all. But...truely a testament to how soft and smooth the texture of the blush is!

Finally, the reason I really went to Inglot was to get their amazing eye shadows which everyone has been raving about. I know I don't need new makeup, but...sometimes I just have that feeling that what I have is not right for whatever occasion, it's so old/last year, I could find something more perfect, and so on. So I wanted to build a new palette, something neutral but versatile so that I could use it for a nice daytime look and a more dramatic nighttime look.

The MUA told me that Inglot is discontinuing the round eye shadow pans, so the price is lower now at $4 a pan instead of $5 each (either way, much cheaper than MAC's refill pans). The mirror palettes are $5 empty, so that means a full palette is only $25. I thought, score! Guess I'll *have* to get two, haha, since they're discontinuing round e/s pans and I prefer round over square. =P

I honestly don't feel that my photos do justice to the palettes (I'll try again with flash), and also even when you swatch some of the colors, you get this beautiful, highly dimensional sparkle that you couldn't detect in the pan. Some of the colors are similar to my favorite MAC eye shadows but seemed "better," more sheen, more sophisticated or more club-appropriate without just being a glitter bomb. For example, Inglot Double Sparkle 498 looks similar to MAC Black Tied but has much more dimension.

Hiyee everyone! I know, I know...once again, long time no blog. :( At first I was relaxing and enjoying not having class on top of working full time, and catching up with friends I hadn't seen in a while...then suddenly summer just became tons of fun yet super busy.

Anyways I'll start with this little post about my birthday, which was last weekend (July 23rd). Later I will be back to update about my recent goodies from Inglot, MAC, YesStyle.com, etc.

I usually don't make a big fuss over my birthday, but I just figured we had so much fun the weekend before, why not keep it going? Plus my actual birthday was on a Saturday, so why not?

True to my semi spontaneous style, I planned my birthday festivities almost at the last minute, meaning the Sunday before, hehe, and it turned out to be an AMAZING weekend!! I started with a birthday pre-party by bar hopping in downtown Fullerton last Friday with friends.

We started at Palapa Grill where they have these huge, tasty fish bowl drinks.

Fish bowls make me think of 50 First Dates, when he took the tourist girl out and she said she was feeling so drunk and then he confessed there was no alcohol in it, lol.

The place has bright decor and it was a bit crowded with small booths and tables but we managed.

The next bar we went to was The W (I think?) and it had more of a club atmosphere with a dance floor. We decided to get a table with bottle service there. Lots of fun!

Then the next night, Saturday, which was my actual birthday, we went clubbing in downtown LA at Exchange LA. We had a VIP table and a couple of bottles of Grey Goose, which were brought out with sparklers by my friend Dianna Lushus who works as a bottle server there. Very cool!

It was a crazy fun night and the only thing is that I wish it lasted longer for me, haha, but I had fun and I'm glad everyone else did as well. Really thankful to everyone who came out and celebrated with me.

My two best girl friends also came out which was really awesome, because I hardly get to see them. I love them very much!! I'm also really thankful for them taking care of me that night since I was so gone (thanks to my guy friends for taking care of that). ♥

The next day I woke up without a hangover but just very tired, and no memory after around 12:15 a.m. or so, haha. Also no card, ID, or camera (but luckily my friends had them so I got them back). I decided a turkey leg at the OC fair would help me feel better so a few of us wrapped up our amazing weekend with that.

(For some reason my camera couldn't take very clear pics at the fair, which was a bit of a bummer...but later I realized I probably needed to wipe the lens since someone said my camera got drunk when I spilled a vodka shot on it. Oops.)

I asked one of my guy friends to win this pink Domo kun for me, so sweet! It's actually the first time a guy's won a prize for me at a fair, hehe, and it's super awesome because I'll always remember it as being my birthday weekend too.

I actually really love the fair and just went again yesterday, but I think I'll save all those pics for another post.

Overall, it was an amazing birthday weekend, I wish I could have that moment for life! I'm glad some of my friends also had an amazing weekend with me as well. So yeah, I've been having fun, going out and making the most out of my summer! But I wouldn't mind having some rest and staying in, and I will try to blog some more later this week.

The Body Shop Body Butter Sale

This is a boring post, secretly (or not so secretly) I could call it the "I skipped dinner even though I'm hungry to blog" post, or the "No, I didn't go to IMATS even though everyone else did" post...but I won't. ;)

About a month or so ago I missed the Groupon $40 for $20 Body Shop deal (*kicks self*), but luckily I was able to catch the Memorial Day online sale and now there's another sale.

I am a freak of nature who always, always needs to use moisturizer and so I always stock up. I've tried many body butters but somehow, I may be the last person to use The Body Shop body butter. Aaaaahhhh! What is wrong with me? Go figure.

Actually, I think whenever I used to go in The Body Shop, uh, shop, I always had the misfortune of missing a sale and of being overwhelmed (borderline disgusted? jk) by all of the scents (they do not ALL smell good). But, what a shame because I realize now that I was missing out on a good thing.

The body butters are regularly priced from $16-$18, but with the B3G2/B2G1 Free sale, they average to $10. That means each body butter basically costs about the same as a drugstore brand, but these are of much better quality! (No petro/mineral oil or urea ingredients.) Most of them (if not all) are made with Community Trade cocoa butter or shea butter. They moisturize very well and smell nice (well some, not all). I also like that each body butter is labeled for different skin types - normal, normal to dry, dry to very dry, sensitive, or all skin types. There's also a useful list on the website (though it doesn't include all the body butters) which looks like this:

Well, I don't want to rave too much because I've only just started using them, but so far I'm happy because they're really great for the sale price and just wanted to share the sales info in case you were ever interested in trying their products. I go through body moisturizers quickly and wanted to find something very moisturizing but affordable. I actually tried a few drugstore ones like Yes To Carrots body butter but found it didn't well for me, booooo, and I'd liked the Queen Helene Fair Trade cocoa butter creme a lot but seems it's been pulled from shelves for mislabeling.

Anyways...here are the ones I'm trying out now.

Mango body butter

This Mango body butter smells delicious, even though I actually think it reminds me more of nectarines (perhaps I'm just weird like that). I happen to love mangoes and it's a plus that this one is for very dry skin, so it's very moisturizing. I'm so glad my 언니 May recommended it to me.

Vitamin E body butter

This Vitamin E body butter is best for all skin types, but I found it's definitely not as moisturizing as the Mango one, so I wouldn't buy it again and wouldn't recommend it for the winter. It says it has a "heavenly tea-rose scent" but it reminds me a bit of the powdery baby lotion scent. It's not a bad thing though and the scent is light. I actually added more Vitamin E to mine.

Almond body butter

The Almond body butter is best for normal to dry skin. It is rich and the scent isn't the mouth-watering Almond pudding scent I was hoping for, but I don't mind it. It is similar to the scent of the Dr. Bronner Almond Castile Soap.

Moroccan Rose body butter

For some reason I didn't think I would care much for the Moroccan Rose body butter but it actually smells very nice, very "pretty" in a subtle and not overwhelming way. It's best for normal to dry skin so I am hoping it will be as moisturizing as the Almond one (yep, I haven't used this one yet).

Passion Fruit body butter

The Passion Fruit body butter is a limited edition one which is a shame, because it smells soooo good! I couldn't stop sniffing it in the store. It's fruity and has a delectable aroma like the Mango one (but obviously, not the same scent). This is also best for normal to dry skin and I look forward to using it in the summer...so I can smell like I want to take a bite out of myself, haha.

Again, I'm really happy with these (even if it makes for a not-so-interesting post). I would definitely recommend the Mango and Passion Fruit ones, as they just smell so delectable but are also moisturizing. I was surprised because I thought I'd like the popular fruity scents that are intended for normal skin, like the Strawberry and Satsuma ones, but seriously, Strawberry just smells really artificial sweet like Sweet Tarts and Satsuma just smells like oranges (technically clementines), so there. =P

My Thoughts
I loved it the first time I'd used it and it made my 2010 Beauty Favorites list. Aside from what I already listed in the pros, it makes my face feel very soft and also look a bit brighter. I want to say it feels refreshing and perhaps a bit soothing, but ideally your face should always feel refreshed after cleansing, right? I do recommend this product though if your skin is dry and delicate and you want something gentle. I also recommend using it either in the morning or at night after you've removed your makeup (which I usually do with a cleansing oil), as it is a gentle cleanser intended more for soothing and not removing makeup.

I actually really liked this moisturizer (especially for $21) as I found it to be moisturizing without being too heavy. It absorbed quickly and didn't make my face feel oily. My face felt soft and smooth all day long. I used it every day and the jar lasted about three months. However, I'm hesitant to repurchase because I prefer my moisturizers to be free of petro products/mineral oil, Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea. So I've actually just started using another green tea moisturizer that doesn't contain those and I believe it's free of parabens as well.

My Thoughts
This is a little hard for me to review because I believe dark circles are largely genetic, but also affected by your lifestyle (such as often staying up late, drinking lots of alcohol, not drinking lots of water, crying, etc...all things I often do minus the last). I don't think the brightening and puffiness-reducing effects are all that noticeable or long lasting, but I will admit that I have not been using eye cream lately and my eyes seem puffier. ㅠㅠ So in my mind, it is a "light" to "medium" eye cream that does hydrate but it's not a heavy hitter for those who want to see a huge improvement for dark circles and puffiness.

My Thoughts
I have mixed feelings about serums. On the one hand they don't seem to make a great, noticeable improvement...on the other hand, it doesn't hurt to use them (in case there are longterm benefits). I really bought the serum to use in case the Face Complex wasn't moisturizing enough (especially since I started using it at the beginning of January), but that wasn't necessary. Also, due to the price and having to order online, I won't likely rush to buy it again.

Overall, I did like the products because they're gentle but effective, albeit in a subtle way. I think they're definitely suitable for sensitive and delicate or dry skin, but it's a little hard for me to attest to it reducing blotchiness and being soothing since I don't think of my skin as being very blotchy and my skin always feels soothed when I'm taking care of it, unless the product creates an adverse reaction. I would recommend the Urban Defense Facial Cleansing Milk and Green Tea Antioxidant Face Complex. The Green Tea Antioxidant Serum and H2o+ Green Tea Reviving Eye Cream are nice to have but not necessary. In general I feel that the marketing is great but when looking at the ingredients...well, I would be more impressed if the lists were shorter and contained natural or certified organic ingredients. However, I appreciate the 40% off sale and I've even seen a BOGO sale before too. Other skincare companies in their price range very rarely have such big sales like that, so definitely take advantage of it if you're interested in trying their products!

I know you've prob read a lot of blogs about this already, and although I really wanted to post this sooner I didn't have time until now, so please forgive me as I've been busy and hardly home these days.

I had the pleasure of attending Beautylish's LA event last Tuesday at the W Hotel in Westwood (West LA).

I'd met the Beautylish team last summer at IMATS but unfortunately was not able to make it to their first LA event back in October, so there was no way I was going to miss it this time around!

Since it was on a weeknight I went straight after work and braved good ol' 405 traffic for about an hour and a half, joy. But you want to know the truth? I actually kind of missed going to LA...I used to commute and go for fun a lot also, and didn't realize that it'd definitely been a while.

Hmm I got there and quickly realized that I was horribly under-dressed, whoops, and that I didn't know anyone aside from the Beautylish team...so I did what any awkward shy girl would do and quickly stepped out onto the terrace, found the table with fruit and cheese and crackers platters and loaded up, haha. Then I sat down alone and proceeded to stuff my face. Sexy, right? I know.

But the sweet hearts of Beautylish would not let it be so, hehe, and brought me the Beautylish special drink from the open bar.

Anyways I felt much more relieved and comfortable being with Tammy, Amy and Alyssa, all of whom are very sweet and friendly girls, plus I'd already known Amy and Alyssa through our blogs though this was our first time meeting. And to my surprise, I also saw Jilly there and met Katrina as well! It was my first time meeting Katrina and she's also sweet and very easy to chat with.

I know a lot of planning and hard work went into this event and I'm very thankful to have been invited. No Witty Title...Just My Handwriting Meme

I got tagged to do this meme by my dear Kay!! I don't have a nice intro like hers or Diana C.'s...but like them, I also enjoy seeing what people's handwriting looks like. I think it's just that much more personal and these days, it's pretty rare considering we pretty much communicate electronically via text, email, fb, gchat, etc. And yes, I am sentimental enough to keep all cards and notes, including notes all the way back from middle school.

About my handwriting...oh boy, where to start? I never had nice penmanship, I wrote chicken scratch as a kid and always thought it was the context and not the presentation of my writing, hahaha, what an idealist! Obviously that changed over the years and I basically adapted my handwriting to that of a friend whose penmanship I thought looked nice. So now I have sloppy Asian girl handwriting, kekekeke.

My writing quirks:

♥ Black pens > blue pens, FYI. And gel pens FTW!

♥ I don't dot my i's or j's (just like you, Kay! didn't know it was a Japanese thing though). I do once in a very rare while, but 99.9% of the time, I just don't.

♥ I write capital R's instead of lowercase r's...because I really don't like my lowercase r's, been that way prob ever since high school.

♥ I almost never write in cursive and when I do, I'm painstakingly slow. I don't like a lot of my cursive letters.

♥ When I sit, I tend to lean to the left and turn my paper and books accordingly...so most of the time, when I write, my letters slant to the left! haha I never really noticed this until I started learning Korean because all of my "straight" vertical lines lean to the left, hahaha. (The crazy thing is that it usually looks straight to me! But after scanning my meme, it's pretty obvious.)

Belated Winter Gear and Rainy Weekend

This might seem silly to post as it's almost spring and Cali winters are pretty bipolar (sometimes it's in the 80+ degrees, haha), but I love winter clothing. Luckily it rained and has been somewhat cloudy and chilly and breezy lately, yay! But...major dislike for being sick and stuck inside for the entire weekend. =(

Anyway this post is pretty random as I'm still waiting for a few gals to send me pics of their Secret Valentine packages until I can post that, so please forgive me.

My fav thing about January is hitting up all the sales, especially if you go right around New Year's. I picked up this coat at Express for 40% off. (I want to say it was originally about $200 so I got it for about $120.)

It's actually not black but a very deep navy blue. At first I didn't like the bottom pleats, but I actually liked the fit (it's very slimming) and I am a sucka for military inspired fashion. It's also very warm so it does it job well.

Instagram love still going strong...

Having a new coat made me want a new pair of ankle boots (my last pair from Forever 21 sadly cracked, haha), and so I came across these on the Aldo website:

Definitely my style! And the best part? Marked down from $120 to $55.99. The worst part? They ran out of my size both at the closest store and online. But luckily for me, a friend was able to pick them up at Glendale Galleria and I got them from her in LB. Meant to be!!

OPI Katy Perry and China Glaze Crackle

Yes yes, like everyone else, I got my grubby little hands on polishes from the OPI Katy Perry collection and also the China Glaze Crackle collection! Thanks to Giang for being the best nail polish enabler and keeping us junkies up-t0-date with releases at Imperial Beauty! =)

Lightning Bolt, Crushed Candy, Cracked Concrete (I had to look at the names, will prob always refer to them as white, teal and gray Crackle!)

I also had to pick up my first bottle of Seche Vite, even though I'd been resisting but everyone raves about it so much and my current top coat just wasn't cutting it for me anymore.

I realized at the time I didn't own any true black polishes (don't worry, I've remedied that since) so I tried OPI Not Like The Movies with CG Crushed Candy. (Sorry for the sloppy applications!)

NLTM is sheer but very pretty (I only used 2 coats, next time I'll try 3). I like the color variety of CG Crackle but...honestly it reminded me a bit of White-Out (the smell, the texture, and how it dries quickly and would clump if you don't apply it right the first time). It did, however, last for a long time without chipping.

About a week or so later, I switched to Teenage Dream.

And a few days later, I applied Black Shatter.

I definitely prefer the OPI formula. The smell was not much more off putting than the usual OPI polish, the texture only slightly thicker, overall it wasn't extremely different than other OPI polishes (to me) and it shattered more easily and nicely (for me, of course. You may feel differently). It is nice though to be able to have a choice of colors and the Crackle lasted much, much longer without chipping, so both are worth their weight.

A case of soju...I'm actually not a fan of plain soju (but it's soooooo good when it's lychee soju!!), I guess I have mixed feelings...but I couldn't resist decorating the bottles with heart stickers, kekeke.

Inglot Goodies

So I kind of rushed over Inglot Cosmetics in my previous post...I meant to say that they only have a few flagship stores in the US (5 to be exact), although you can order online I believe as well as catch them at trade shows. However, I highly recommend checking them out in person if you can. Why? Keep reading, kekekeke.

Originally I thought of getting a 5-round-pan palette of lippies (yah, it didn't occur to me to mix and match lippies and eye shadow in a palette), since I've probably never in my life finished an entire lipstick. I swatched like 30 shades and narrowed down to 6, which then became...2. It's worth taking the time to try them on your lips, because the prettiest shades on my hand were too dry on my lips, and it's worth seeing in person because when I looked at my shades online they look boringgg.

They look the same, don't they?! And...boring, haha. And unfortunately they only have numbers for names (and no color descriptions online), which makes it a bit difficult to remember when you're looking at tons of choices (write 'em down).

In person, to me, 226 is a neutral almost-berry pink and 121 is a pale/light pink...but in the tubes, they do look very similar.

I know...both colors are fairly neutral and not that different from what I usually wear, but I just can't help it. I like pink lippies and even though I tried bolder shades, I felt these looked more flattering on me and with my skin tone. (Maybe I'll get a pan of a bolder shade next time, hehe.)

What I wore in my last post was 226...see?

The lipsticks were only $12, and the texture/consistency is smooth and very creamy. The pigmentation is not bad, I find that I like to layer it at least 2-3 times but maybe that's just me. I really like the quality for the price, and I like the option of being able to buy it in a palette in pan form ($22 for a 3-round-pan palette or $30 for a 5-round-pan palette, you'll have to check other palette prices).

However, I wouldn't say just yet that I like it better than MAC. Why? My favorite thing about MAC is that I can almost always trust the color/shade/pigmentation to look just as nice in pictures as it does in person, both with and without flash. Maybe that's vain of me but I dislike and feel disappointed when I take a picture and my makeup looks non-existent or just plain ol' bleh.

But...I'm willing to go back to Inglot and check out their eye shadows. Hey, it's nice to have options and variety, don't you think? ;)

Happy Lunar New Year everyone!! Lucky year of the wabbit...or cat if you're Vietnamese! Did you celebrate? To tell you the truth, I didn't really. haha Fail for one of my New Year's Resolutions, right? Well, I did take Friday off, I saw my family last week and will probably see them again later this week, and I went to eat in Little Saigon because I was craving Vietnamese food.

It's a quaint restaurant for Central Vietnamese cuisine, which apparently is where my ancestors are from (keke maybe that explains why I love bánh bèo, it's in my blood/ancestral heritage!). The entrance has a little indoor pond, although I'm not sure if there are usually fish in it (there weren't this day).

I also grabbed a slice of Vietnamese cake from Van's Bakery, it's a green sponge cake with coconut stripes inside, so simple but so good. Unfortunately, I didn't take a pic of because I devoured it before rushing out for kbbq. Fear not though, for I shall return to the bakery for another slice...because I am such a dedicated blogger, kekeke jk but really though, I need to pick up and drop off pants at the tailor's above the bakery and I am craving another slice. =P

Today I went out for dim sum with some friends at Capital Seafood at Diamond Jamboree, which I haven't had in a long time (today was not a vegetarian day...although I wonder where I can find a vegetarian dim sum place).

I guess I don't eat dim sum often because I am not a big fan of shrimp, but this is my favorite dim sum item (can someone tell me what it's called, please?). It's the flat rice noodle thingy with Chinese bbq pork inside and it's saucy.

However, it was my first time at this restaurant and they didn't make it the way I like it (it was all chopped up inside with green stuff, I dunno, cilanto, whatever). I just wanted it simple and more noodle-y (actually can't you tell I am a big fan of rice noodles/rice flour thingies, I also ate bánh ướt this weekend).

I tried not to smirk or laugh like I usually do, instead I look hella serious about eating!

I must have been feeling hella Asian or just really craving Asian food, hehe. After kbbq again on Saturday night, I went to Lollicup for boba, but...it didn't taste that great and seemed overpriced. (sorry Lollicup fans). So after dim sum I had to fulfill that craving properly at Guppy Tea House. Not a fan of their food but their coconut butter brick toast and boba are really tasty. I had honeydew with lychee jelly at Lollicup so this time I got Thai milk tea boba instead.

The best thing about living anywhere in Southern California (or one of the best things) is being able to be outside and enjoy beautiful sunny days. It's so chill and relaxing, I've really been enjoying my weekends lately (even if it's a tease because it starts to get cold and dark early since it's not actually summer).

Sunday Fun Day and Inglot Cosmetics

Rainy Sunday this week but last Sunday was such a beautiful day, I had to take advantage of it and go with the flow. I met up with a friend at The Camp in Costa Mesa for lunch at Native Foods, a vegan cafe (yup, my vegetarian days are going so well I'm actually doing twice a week now).

Asian Lettuce Wraps (these were alright)

Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger
"thinly sliced original Seitan, melted cheddar, caramelized onions, crispy tempeh bacon on a bun slathered with BBQ sauce and ranch dressing, lettuce, carrots, onions, and tomato and topped with crunchy battered dill pickles chips."

The burger was much better than the lettuce wraps...soo good! I went back to Native Foods again during the week, haha (yeah, on my second vegetarian day). Also their Watermelon Fresca is soooo good and refreshing!

After we were sufficiently full, we went to Fashion Island in Newport Beach so I could do a little "research," kekeke, that is I went to the Inglot store after Mona recommended I check them out.

Everything is widely spread out for your viewing pleasure...

You can use their Freedom system to mix and match square or round pans of lippies and eye shadows...

So many to choose from, I think I could have spent hours in their store!

But that day, I was on a mission: to find a new lipstick color. Their lipstick display is love!

I look way too happy here, hehe.

I had a hard time choosing a color, so I swatched all and any that caught my interest.

After Inglot, I went to get Sprinkles for cupcakes. Soooooo good! There was a line outside the door but I didn't care.

I got the red velvet, super delicious, and the lemon cupcake. After Sprinkles, I went to Milk + Honey for a lychee shaken iced tea with lychee jelly bits. Mmmmm refreshing!

Yes, I was a very happy girl last Sunday!! (I'm kind of weird looking in this pic, aren't I? But I kind of like it, haha.)

I know...you're probably wondering what I got at Inglot! After much swatching, testing and debating...I finally made a decision...but I will show you that in another post, promise! =)

2010 Beauty Favorites

I know we're nearing the end of January but I still wanted to do this. =) In my post for last year's favorites, I said I'd "focus more on skincare products and less on makeup," and I'm happy to say I did. As such, I don't have a lot of new makeup favs, but here are some products that I loved using and relied on in 2010.

SKINCARE
H2O Plus Urban Defense Green Tea Cleansing Milk
I love this! I have Iyah to thank for introducing me to it when she let all us girls try it at our HK sleepover. Immediately after using it, my face feels so soft and also looks brighter!

Vitacreme B12 Regenerative CreamIf you already read my review, then you should know how much I love this (especially since I rarely do reviews). I love it even more now that I know Sasa carries it and sells it for only $22 (instead of its regular price of $36).

My Beauty Diary Masks (new)
I'm sure all you sheet mask lovers know that MBD improved their masks, and I absolutely love these new ones, Southern France Apricot and Bird's Nest. Tons of serum and the sheets are thinner, making them seem more like their premium line but at a lower cost. No matter how many other sheet masks I use, these are my favorite, because not only is the packaging cute but they really do a great job and are so inexpensive.

Crazy Rumors lip balm
I'd gotten my first one in a swap, and I didn't realize how much I liked it until my sister took it, haha. But she swore her lips were so badly chapped and this lip balm saved her lips more than anything else she'd tried. They're made cruelty free and vegan. I also think these are better than Burt's Bees. They're just moisturizing and soften your lips. The only drawback is I could only find them online, and I had to order a bunch to save on shipping. My favorite flavors were Banana Split, Ginger Peach, Amaretto, and Irish Cream.

Lush Sympathy for the Skin body cream
My favorite after-shower/bath body moisturizer. It absorbs quickly and is very moisturizing. I actually order it from the Lush UK site since it's about half the price (shipping is either cheap or free, depending how much you order).

Naturally Victoria's Secret body lotion
Sadly, I think they're discontinuing this line as I can't find it on the website, but you might be able to find them on sale in stores (if any are left). I'm not a big fan of VS lotions/creams (I like Bath & Body Works better even though they're part of the same company), but surprisingly, this one was really nice. The scents are subtle and moisturizing power is pretty good. I like using it for quick needs, like right before leaving the house or right after washing my hands.

HAIRCARE
Kao Essential hair products, Rich Premier (orange packaging)
I wrote about these back in March, and I've been using them ever since (well after I finished the Nuancy Air). They work really well for my hair, and they don't leave sticky residue like some other Japanese drugstore brands did for me. They're also not as expensive as other Japanese brands (especially if you can find them in a set). And they smell good, especially the hair mask!

I got the big bottles after I finished the small ones, hehe. Marukai had a set that included a small bottle of the hair treatment.

I absolutely looooooove how soft my hair feels after I use the hair mask (my first one I got from Kay but you can find it on Sasa now).

MAKEUP
Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette
At first, I wasn't even going to buy this, especially since it sold out so quickly. But Giang had all of us girls use it the night we went out, and she completely enabled me. This was my go-to palette for fall and winter. I think I used it too much, lol, so now I'm actually trying to use other eye shadows but this was definitely very useful for me in 2010!

K-Palette liquid eyeliner
This is a staple for me. It's just so quick and easy to use. I tried using the Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner but for me, this one's the winner. It stays put but is fairly easy to take off. I forgot it at home one day and was reminded how much I need it in my life, hehe. True story. =)

MAC MSF By Candlelight
I know, remember the MSF repromote craze? Yes, I too scrambled and I felt lucky to get my hands on both Stereo Rose and By Candlelight. I'm SO GLAD I did! I missed out on By Candlelight by being slow the first time it came out, and now, I just love it. It's just so soft and shimmery and subtle...it's really aptly named. It softens or can tone down any harsh or too-bright blush. It's also probably going to last me forever since I only use a little on my cheeks mainly.

MAC Beauty Powder in Briar Rose
My first MAC Beauty Powder that I got when I went to the Venomous Villains event. I wasn't even planning on getting anything there hehe but of course, you know how that goes. Anyways I love the texture, so fine and silky, and I love how it's buildable so you can use just a little as highlighter or you can make it bold. I might have to start paying more attention to MAC Beauty Powders from now on.

MAC Innocence, Beware!
Another Venomous Villains item but this also turned into my go-to lipstick for fall/winter. I just love it so much, it's a pretty shade for a nice, natural look and also the texture is nice and creamy. Sooo pretty. Love at first sight (on my lips, hehe).

TOOLS

Koji eyelash curler No. 71 (short)
I got this as a gift from May and it's completely kicked my Shu Uemura curler to the curb! The angle is less curved so it can really get in close to your lashes. It works great on smaller eyes too. And it's cheap! Love love love!!

Sephora mini brush set
I got these last holiday season for super cheap, I think $5-$8. They're small, the case is about the size of a tri-fold wallet (or bi-fold? whatever) so they fit easily in my purse. I love these because they're so handy to have, on days when I'm in a rush and/or late, I can quickly put on a decent face.

Clarisonic Mia
I got this a long time ago when I was shopping with Iyah, who along with Mona enabled me to get it. At first I thought it was a luxury, and admittedly, it is, but I also think it definitely helps me keep my face in check. It does everything it says it would do. And if you read my review, you know it has greatly improved my skin and has made life easier for me in that aspect. I've definitely grown fond of it!

GHD IV Classic Styler
This was my splurge earlier this year. I lusted and waited for this for a loooooong time, because as usual, I was being picky and I didn't want the original and I knew GHD would release limited edition stylers every season...so I waited and waited until there was finally one I liked, haha. (Originally I wanted the all-white Pure version but couldn't find it). I'm happy I have an all-black one and I love its nifty features, like automatic shut off and beeping when it's ready to use, and also the heat-resistant bag gives me great peace of mind (I'd hate to accidentally burn something).

Things that are still my favorite from last year

Boscia Oil-Free Daily Hydration SPF 15
Still my favorite moisturizer for warm seasons. Moisturizing without being too heavy, oil-free, and natural.

Guerlain Extreme Parure Liquid Foundation
Expensive, I know, but definitely worth its weight! I'm still using the same bottle, it's lasted me that long! I rely on this so much because it's lightweight and non-drying, and it gives such good coverage but with a natural look. It lasts long and I feel like I'm wearing nothing.

Yup...that's my list! I'm trying new some new products and I think I may have found some favorites already, hehe, but everything above has definitely helped me and made life a bit easier and more enjoyable in 2010, hehe. Hmm as far as beauty goals for 2011...I would say to make smart purchases, to find items that work well but without spending too much, or if I should splurge on something, to make sure it's a worthy splurge and a good investment (like my Clarisonic Mia and GHD were, oh but I also got both of them at discounted prices). And if it's not too much to ask, to love every product I buy, haha, so much that I put it to good use, and maybe all my purchases will be favorite products. =)

Happy 2011!!

Yes, I know, I've been completely MIA, I pretty much fell off the blogging wagon. But...in fairness, I did tell you I was taking a break, and now...it's a new year!! And I'm back. =)

I want to start by sharing some of my favorite blogging moments in 2010.

Winter/Spring
Secret Valentine!! Kay and I did a Secret Valentine gift exchange since we had so much fun doing her Secret Santa. The big surprise for me was finding out Kay was my Secret Valentine!

Summer
IMATS!! This was my first time going and I really enjoyed being able to attend some of the classes as well as haullllll!! Also I got to meet some of the folks at Beautylish.

Thanks to Iyah, I met Giang, Christina, and Juli for the first time when we went to Guppy's and Yard House.

We had such a good time that we got together again for a Girls' Day & Night a week later and this time I got to meet Angelique . We had sooo much fun!!

And a month later, we had yet another Girls' Day and our Hello Kitty sleepover. We spent 24+ hours together!!

Girls who love and appreciate beauty, food, retail therapy, and who know how to have a good time = my kind of girls! Miss you girls and hope we can all get together again soon!

Fall
MAC Venomous Villains collection event with Iyah, Giang, Caroline, and Jilly. This was my first time meeting Caroline and I'd met Jilly not too long ago when we made our first Imperial Beauty run, hehe.

Winter
I met May when she came down to visit! I also met Sarah for the first time. With Iyah, the four of us had fun just hanging out, and eating and shopping of course.

It's clear that my favorite part of blogging is all of the wonderful people I get to meet!! There are still many girls I'd like to be able to meet and hang out with in person too! I hope that will happen this year. A lot of people may think us blogger girls only share love of beauty products and retail therapy, but the truth is we share a lot of other loves and often times we can confide in each other, go to one another for advice and even lean on each other for emotional support. It's amazing what good things come from just blogging about "superficial" things, don't you think? =)

And now...

My New Year's Resolutions
♥ Work out regularly. This is my resoluation every year, haha, but so far, I'm off to a good start. My fitness goal is not to lose weight but to be in overall better shape and tone up.

♥ Cook more and eat out less, and also eat more veggies and fruits and less meat and junk food. So far...been kind of busy to cook, but I'll make it happen. I'd like to have vegetarian days at least once a week. (Today is one of those days!)

♥ Work on getting into grad school for next year. I'm going to take a couple of classes to help me to do that (so far, I'm waitlisted for one).

♥ Celebrate every holiday. Sounds trivial, but sometimes I am too caught up in other things that holidays just kind of come and go (sometimes with relief), but afterwards, I feel a little bummed that I didn't celebrate and that I have to wait another year.

♥ Focus more on myself and less on others. What I mean is, I want to be more patient, understanding, and forgiving with people...but I don't want to let them bring me down or take away so much of my time and energy that I'm not doing all of the things that I want to do (priorities and balance).

♥ Better myself. Have more faith, trust, and confidence. This is somewhat an extension of focusing more on myself.

♥ Save more, spend less and spend wisely. This is hard for me, or at least challenging. But I think if I maintain better lifestyle habits, like what I've listed above, this will slowly become easier to maintain as a lifestyle habit as well (i.e. gym and studying keep me busy and allow me to save more than if I were out shopping, eating and drinking all the time).

Annnnnnnd...of course...I will do my best to blog more (or at least, more consistently)!!

THANK YOU for being a part of my life, one that is both entertaining and yet also supportive and understanding. ♥ I appreciate that you let me be who I am and give me freedom to always come back. =) I hope your 2010 was a good year and that your 2011 will be even better!!

MAC, Venom & Villains, Oh My!!

Hello everyone!! Hope you had a good week and are enjoying your weekend!

Last weekend I went to the MAC Venomous Villains (am I the only one who wants to say Villainous Venoms? haha) event at South Coast Plaza with Iyah, Giang, Caroline, Jilly and her sister.

There was a huge display and backdrops set up outside of the store, including an area where the MUAs were applying VV collection on people.

We bypassed the crowd outside and went into the store where we quickly played with the VV collection ourselves. After making our purchases, we were ready to take pictures, hehe.

As you already know, the VV collection features four Disney villains, so each villain had a backdrop where you could get your picture taken. Our favs were Cruella's and the Evil Queen's (actually I don't remember what Maleficent's backdrop was).

Before we went to the mall, we'd actually stopped for ramen at our favorite place (Santouka Ramen inside of Mitsuwa).

99% of the time, there is a really long line!

I have a ridiculous amount of Santouka ramen pics, considering I almost always get my favorite (spicy miso chashu ramen with egg, mmm yummy!).

I went with the intention of not buying anything from the VV collection...but thanks to those enablers *ahem*...I was lucky I managed to escape with just three items. =)

I didn't realize until after that I got something from almost each villain, hehehe. I totally played it safe with my color choices. Briar Rose is a really pretty pink and I love the smooth texture of the beauty powder. Innocence, Beware! is a soft, pinkish nude...it was instant like at first application, hehe, plus I like cremesheen. Bite of an Apple scared me at first since it's bright and very pigmented, but Iyah really recommended it so I'm willing to give it a try. If it doesn't work out, maybe I'll exchange it if anything is still available at the MAC store (Caroline was really rocking those red lips! I think it was Heartless...but her skin is also really porcelain whereas mine is definitely not).

I'm wearing everything I got here, hehe...excuse the bright cheeks thanks to the MUA (this was also after I blended, wiped, and applied Briar Rose over it...can we say pigmented?!).

After MAC, we went to Imperial Beauty where we ooh-ed and ahh-ed over all the cheaply priced nail polishes. I left with these two:

OPI Glow Up Already! from the 2010 Burlesque Holiday Collection Essie Sew Psyched (Cashmere-soft sage pewter) from the 2010 Fall collection...yes, I like green. =)

All these trips to Imperial Beauty definitely motivate me to keep my nails polished. Here's what's currently on my hands.

My "princess" nails...super girly with OPI Panda-monium Pink, Nubar 2010, and Nicole by OPI Winter Glitterland (still love this one ever since Mona got it for me last year!).

Omg this is such a long post! One last thing...I dyed my hair black again (using Palty Turn Color Natural Black) and I'm also growing out my bangs.

But because it used to be light brown (light then medium then dark), it has a reddish tint in the sunlight.

Sorry, I wasn't wearing any makeup (just sunblock) and my iPhone camera picks up all sorts of pores I didn't even know were there, haha.

Who's the baddest b*tch of them all?! muhahahahaha!

I met up with Iyah, Giang, Caroline, Jilly and her sister for some girl time in honor of the newly released MAC Venomous Villains collection. We had a lot of fun and it's always great to see those girls, I will def post more about it later this week/weekend!

For now, that's a picture of Iyah and me from the MAC Venomous Villains event at South Coast Plaza on Saturday. Do we look wicked and vain or what? hehe

I wanted to post "A Piece of Me" for Notes from the Toothfairy on time for this month even though I only did last month's two weeks ago (aka two weeks late).

This month....

I like: continuing the same friendships, spending time consistently with and getting to know people even more. ♥

I don't like: feeling "old" or "behind," but luckily it was only a temporarily feeling. I'm starting to feel more comfortable and accepting of who I am and where I am...plus it's good motivation to use sheet masks more often.

I've planned: to study and work out more. I know, I always say this...but I really do mean it! But I'm still going to blog once in a while (maybe once a month or so).

Girls Day Part Two: After the Sleepover and A Piece of Me in September 2010

This is a continuation of my last post about my sleepover with Iyah, Giang, Ria, Christina, and Angelique. I had to break this post into two because of all the pictures! Here's us the next day. Wow, we spent more than 24 hours straight together!

My summer officially ended since I started class again after our sleepover. It's nice to be able to look back on the memories we created. =)

I know it's mid-month already but I still want to share A Piece Of Me for Notes from the Toothfairy.

This month....

I like: going to new places and meeting new people, being open to new experiences. ♥

I don't like: feeling bored and not being able to see many future possibilities...so I'm thinking of what to do next, what will make me happy and feel interested and fulfilled, what won't I get bored with in the long run?

I want you to know: I'm truly sorry that I'm not able to spend as much time blogging and keeping up with everyone's blogs, but I still lurk when I can. I also have tons of pics that I haven't posted...would you still want me to even though many are months old?

I've planned: to take a trip. It's exciting to think of new adventures and possibilities, and gives me motivation to save and not shop for things I don't need. =)
